Donald and Marilyn Keough Professor of Irish Studies
Declan Kiberd is the Donald and Marilyn Keough Professor of Irish Studies and professor of English. A leading international authority on the literature of Ireland, both in English and Irish, Professor Kiberd has authored scores of articles and many books, including Synge and the Irish Language, Men and Feminism in Irish Literature, Irish Classics, The Irish Writer and the World, Inventing Ireland, and Ulysses and Us: The Art of Everyday Life in Joyce’s Masterpiece (2009).
Professor Kiberd spends the fall semesters at Notre Dame and spring semesters in Ireland.

The Keough Family has been instrumental in the flourishing of Notre Dame’s program of Irish studies, establishing two professorships and several library collections in this area, and underwriting the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies and the Keough-Naughton Notre Dame Centre in Dublin. The late Donald Keough served as chairman of the Notre Dame Board of Trustees.
