He has studied many aspects of the working population and the work environment—among them, the job search, the application/decision process, staffing and selection, employee satisfaction, compensation, the boss-employee relationship, person-organization fit and how that affects career success, and the effectiveness of alternative training philosophies.
Due to his groundbreaking body of work and prestigious career, Bretz was named a fellow of the American Psychological Association in 1998, and the Association for Psychological Science in 2005.
A recent article in the Industrial-Organizational Psychologist identified Bretz as one of the 10 most prolific authors in the field’s two leading journals during the1990s.
Joe (’54) and Jane Giovanini established this professorship in 1999. After serving in the U.S. Navy, Joe worked with Arthur Anderson before co-founding a development business. Jane earned a nursing degree in 1954. The Giovaninis are the parents of seven children, two of whom have Notre Dame MBAs.
