Mark Behrens

John and Margaret McAndrews Professor of Mathematics

Mark Behrens joined Notre Dame's faculty in 2014, prior to which he served as an assistant and associate professor at MIT. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago, and specializes in algebraic topology. Among his honors, Professor Behrens received a CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation and the MIT School of Science Teaching Prize for Graduate Education. He has published significantly in his field, and serves as editor of the journals Geometry and TopologyAdvances in Mathematics, and the Journal of Homotopy and Related Structures.

The McAndrews Professorship was a gift of John P. (’44, ’47 MS) and Margaret McAndrews. A 20-year veteran of the College of Science Advisory Council, Jack simultaneously served as a group vice president for DuPont and president of a DuPont-subsidiary, the Remington Arms Company. He and Margaret had five children, two of whom were graduated from Notre Dame.
