Shankar Ganesan

John Cardinal O’Hara, C.S.C. Professor of Business

Shankar Ganesan is chair of the Department of Marketing at Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. Prior to joining the University’s faculty in 2013, he served as a faculty member in the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management, Virginia Tech’s R.B. Pamplin College of Business, and SUNY-Albany’s School of Business. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida, and his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore. 

Professor Ganesan’s primary research interests are in interorganizational relationships, customer relationship management, buyer-seller negotiations, service failure and recovery, product recalls, and new product innovation. His articles have appeared in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales ManagementJournal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and the MIT Sloan Management Review. He also edited the Handbook of Marketing and Finance, published by Edward Elgar in 2012.

He has served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Retailing, ranked among the top business journals, since 2011. Professor Ganesan has received numerous awards and honors for his research, teaching, and editorial service.

The John Cardinal O’Hara Professorships honor Notre Dame’s 12th president. They were established with earnings from a fund invested on behalf of the University in 1931, by Bernard E. Smith, a close friend of the Cardinal’s, and Rev. Charles L. O’Donnell, C.S.C., who preceded Cardinal O’Hara as Notre Dame President.
