Thomas Harvey
The Luke McGuinness Director of Nonprofit Professional Development
An internationally recognized leader in social welfare, Tom Harvey has been instrumental in revamping and revitalizing the Master of Nonprofit Administration (MNA) Program at Notre Dame. Nonprofit Professional Development's mission is to develop exemplary leaders for nonprofit organizations. Harvey brings to the task the experience of a 40-year career in the nonprofit sector, during which time he impacted dozens of local and national nonprofit agencies.
Harvey is a past president and chief executive officer of Catholic Charities USA. During his tenure, he led the organization through an explosive growth period—from serving 3.5 million clients annually to more than 12 million. Prior to joining the Notre Dame faculty, he served as a senior vice president for the Alliance for Children and Families, an international association of 300 service agencies.
Harvey has frequently provided testimony before Congress, and his mission-driven, principled leadership has earned him the reputation of being a passionate advocate for the poor and marginalized.
